We are mortal
and our lives are short.
-

We have too little time
to make enough mistakes
to adequately learn from.
We simply need more time to fail,
more freedom for wrong decisions, and
more trust to waste on pride.
Or we must supplement our lack
by learning from the mistakes of others.
We must study history so our brevity
becomes a bit less redundant,
a bit less pathetic.
We must study our personal histories
so we are not doomed to repeat ourselves.
We must study ancient and modern history
so we are not doomed to repeat others.
We are limited by our brief lives
but we can learn from our own experience
and we can learn even more from the brief lives
stacked up beneath our feet.
-

We are mortal
and our lives are short
but we need not be
limited by this.

Live for today, for tomorrow we die gloriously! You would make a good Klingon, puny human. ;-)
